Railway weekend at St Michael's Church - Fri 4th and Sat 5th October

Come and join us to celebrate our weekend devoted to Steam Railways

Last year we used photographs by the late Johnny Keele as the basis for a Celebration of Nature, an exhibition to mark the Coronation.  Johnny also had a passion for steam railways, and we are again using his photos as major component of our exhibition.  We are very fortunate to have a railway artist Eric Petrie living locally.  He is one of our local priests who is very kindly standing in whilst we appoint a new priest to our Parish.  Ged Keele, Johnny’s brother, will also be contributing to the exhibition by mounting a poster display built around a lifetime experience of steam trains.  Audio-visual material featuring steam on the West Somerset Railway, a preserved South African steam train and narrow-gauge steam railways in France and Germany will be shown using the church’s new projection facilities installed in 2023.  There will be community involvement through Brent Knoll Primary School, who will be helping us set up a Dublo electric model railway for the exhibition.  Mac and Viv Hares will display some of the equipment on their electric model railway that runs through their garden.

The overall event will be split in two with a Railway Supper on Friday evening at 6.30pm, which will be served to a seated audience in the N aisle.  The diners will also have an opportunity to see the exhibition and videos {click here to view poster) . On Saturday the church will be open between 10am and 4.30pm for our Railway Fun Day.  Entry is FREE but donations are welcome.  Children are especially welcome because there will be an opportunity to play with the Dublo electric railway (charge £2 per person).  We will also have an excellent collection of Brio trains and track to amuse the very young.  There will be a raffle that runs throughout the event and the usual light refreshments (click here for poster for Railway Fun Day ).

Tickets for the Railway Supper may be obtained from the Brent Knoll Community Shop or direct from Ged Keele (email: gerard.keele@btinternet.com – tel 01278 769010)

We look forward to seeing you, either at our Railway Supper or the Railway Fun Day.
